Beyond The Scores – June 19, 2015
This past year, the Chicago Blackhawks had a tradition of giving a championship belt to the player they felt contributed most after every win. That player then got to pick the recipient after the next win and so on. Kris Versteeg got it after Game 5, but the guys got too busy celebrating after Game 6 to continue the tradition.
Earlier in the season, the team’s equipment manager Clint Reif passed away suddenly. Versteeg and the team decided to honour Reif by giving his young son the season’s final championship belt.
Duncan Keith won the Conn Smythe Trophy and dedicated it to Reif by saying, “This one’s for you Reifer”.
In case you need something to get that dust out of your eye, this should bring a laugh…Versteeg and Nordstrom getting the party started at the Blackhawks Championship Rally by singing Macklemore’s “And We Danced”.
