Emmy-award winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus is battling breast cancer. She shared her diagnosis on social media Thursday. She is 56.

“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” the actress wrote. “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”

Earlier this month, the actress won her sixth Emmy in a row, setting a record for the most wins for a performance in the same role for the same series.

In a statement, HBO says Louis-Dreyfus learned she had cancer the day after the awards, noting that the production schedule on Veep will be adjusted as needed.

(As you’d expect, a lot of celebrities, including her “Veep” co-stars are reacting to the news on social media.  You can find them here and here.)
